Dmitri Medvedev, vice-chairman of the Security Council of Russia, warned on August 12 that Russia will attack any merchant ships transporting cargo for enemy countries.

The West European dogs are barking frantically about a “shadow fleet” of Russia and it refers to common trading vessels carrying cargo for Russia without hanging the Russian flag, he said.

They have no right to detain such ships as the UN convention on the law of the sea and the laws of their countries forbid the detention and it is just an arbitrary action, he denounced.

According to the symmetrical measure, Russia will get the right to attack any merchant ship, if there is a sufficient suspicion that it is carrying cargo for the enemy countries, he said, stressing that the Russian armed forces have the capacity to radically expand the scope of operation beyond the waters of the Black Sea.
