Chinese FM demands Japan's soul-searching

A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry urged Japan to seriously reflect on its history of aggression at a press conference on August 15.

That day the Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi made an offering to the Yasukuni Shrine and other Cabinet members individually visited the shrine. As regards this, the spokesman said that China strongly condemns Japan’s negative moves.

Referring to the fact that Japan launched the war of overseas aggression during WWII and committed heinous crimes, he asserted that the Yasukuni Shrine is a spiritual tool and symbol of Japanese militarism and a “shrine dedicated to war criminals” as 14 class-A war criminals with their name tablets kept in it are the chieftains of the war of aggression.

Whatever pretext the Japanese politicians invent, they cannot conceal their real intention to accelerate remilitarization by overturning the original sentences on the war criminals, hiding the war crimes and distorting historical facts, he said.

Saying that such misbehaviour is a disgrace to history and justice and an infringement of the post-war international order and is unanimously and resolutely rejected by the international community, he stressed that his country strongly demands Japan thoroughly part from militarism and gain the trust of neighbouring Asian countries and the international community with its actual actions.
