Chinese FM denounces Japanese authorities for covering up and distorting history of aggression

A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry sharply criticized the Japanese authorities for harbouring the sinister intention to cover up and distort the history of aggression at a news conference on August 17.

While addressing a national memorial ceremony for the war dead, Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi avoided making soul-searching and drawing a lesson and tried to turn backwards the wheel of history, thus revealing again the sinister intention of the Japanese authorities to cover up and distort the history of aggression, he noted.

Asian countries and the international community have got more vigilant against the tendency of Japan since its prime minister made offerings to the shrine to war criminals and the defense minister, other high-ranking officials and political figures visited the shrine for worship on the anniversary of Japan’s defeat in the war and its surrender, he asserted.

Saying that only when they see history squarely and regard it as a model can they keep themselves from repeating the past error and taking the erroneous path again, he stressed China strongly demands once again that the Japanese rulers lend an ear to the voice of justice of the international community, seriously reflect on guilt and completely separate from militarism.
