Russia criticizes Japan’s shameless, servile behaviour
August 24, 2026Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, condemned the Japanese authorities for their shameless and servile behaviour on a TV programme on August 18.
The Japanese prime minister said that the Russian president’s visit to the Kurils was intolerable as it hurt the feelings of the Japanese people. As regards this, the spokeswoman said: “What kinds of experiments did the Japanese military authorities conduct against our people? They were defeated by our people and are under an obligation not to repeat such conducts any more.”
Japan is talking about its “feelings” as regards the Russian president’s visit to Iturup Island while keeping mum about the US’ dropping of A-bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, she criticized.
She said: “The Americans used nuclear weapons for the first time in history. What I would like to emphasize is that it was committed against the peaceful inhabitants of Hiroshima and Nagasaki without any strategic purpose. Then why do the Japanese authorities stay mum about the incident in those days and about who the ringleader that invaded Japan was, while turning a blind eye to the Japanese people's feelings about the nuclear bomb attacks now?”
