In the DPRK, many dwelling houses are constructed and given to the people gratis at state expense.

The construction of dwelling houses in the country is not for any economic benefits, but it is the undertaking to make the state’s assets and the results of creative labour of the working masses become the welfare of the working people.

The respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un unfolded a grand operation to build dwelling houses in order to provide the people with stable and civilized living conditions.

The Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea held in January 2021 adopted it as the decision of the Party Congress to concentrate efforts on the construction of 50 000 flats in Pyongyang to build 10 000 flats every year from that year in order to solve the housing problem of citizens of the capital city in the main, and form a mining town in the Komdok area by building 25 000 flats there.

After the Party Congress, the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK discussed and decided the issue of building rural villages throughout the country in a way that they preserve the characteristics of the relevant areas.

The General Secretary energetically led the construction of dwelling houses for creating a higher level of civilization.

Saying that the construction of dwelling houses in Pyongyang should continue until the Party’s plan for providing its citizens with perfect conditions for leading a civilized and happy life is translated into reality, he repeatedly visited the construction sites of dwelling houses to make sure that the architectural idea based on the people-first principle was fully embodied in every structure. In those days, he personally examined and perfected thousands of designs.

He attended the groundbreaking ceremonies for the construction of dwelling houses to make stirring speeches and press the button for blasting. He also attended the relevant inauguration ceremonies to cut the inauguration tapes and congratulate owners of new houses.

He made sure that strong commanding forces for the construction of farmhouses as well as that of houses in the capital were organized ranging from the capital to provinces, cities and counties, and went on with his field guidance tours throughout the country, energetically leading the work to construct model rural villages in keeping with regional characteristics according to mountainous, lowland and coastal areas.

Thanks to the devotion and efforts of the General Secretary who takes all pains with pleasure for the good of the people, there have continuously been built the cradles of happiness for the people across the country.

In the capital and different other areas there were built from 2012 many dwelling houses including apartment houses for educators of Kim Il Sung University and those of Changjon, Unha Scientists, Mirae Scientists and Ryomyong streets and Wisong Scientists Residential District. And modern houses sprang up in many parts of the country including the city of Samjiyon, which turned into a standard and model of modern mountainous city.

In particular, five years from 2021 witnessed the construction of houses for tens of thousands of families, including those of Songhwa, Hwasong, Rimhung and Jonwi streets and the Pothong Riverside Terraced Houses District and the building of rural houses for over 110 000 families throughout the country, with the result that the whole country was in a festive mood with events of moving into new houses.

The respected General Secretary, who set a higher goal and higher ideal and led the work to attain them without knowing satisfaction in the work for the good of the people, said in his policy speech at the First Session of the 15th Supreme People Assembly of the DPRK that in the period of the new long-term plan, too, more modern and comfortable houses and new streets should be built in Hwasong and other areas of the capital city and strenuous efforts be directed to building dwelling houses in provincial seats, rural communities and coal mining villages so as to ensure that 370 000 families move into new houses.
