New anticancer and other drugs developed
September 1, 2026The Medical Biology Institute under the Academy of Medical Sciences has recently developed highly effective medicines.
“The clinical application of the newly developed injection to patients resulted in distinct effects in reducing abscesses in many of them,” said Sin Song Chol, PhD and researcher of the institute.
According to him, cisplatin is an anticancer drug used much in the treatment of cancer, but it has such adverse effects as nausea, vomiting, and leucopenia, causing considerable discomfort to patients.
In this regard, research for applying nanotechnology to cancer treatment is now widely conducted worldwide.
A research group of the institute set a goal of developing a new medicine by using nanotechnology and managed to solve relevant sci-tech problems.
The injection developed by them is a target drug directly hitting cancer cells and has very powerful therapeutic effects. The efficacy and safety of the injection have been fully proved through years of clinical trials. The injection has good prospects of application in cancer treatment as it has almost no adverse effect including leukopenia.
The injection was registered as a DPRK patent and rated as excellent at various exhibitions.
The institute also directed efforts to the research for preventing and treating diseases high in the rate of incidence and mortality, including cardiovascular diseases.
They intensified in their own way the research for searching for and removing mechanism factors that are the major causes of hypertension. Thus they developed an effective medicine and established a process for ensuring high yield and purity of the medicine in making it.
A single dose of the injection, unlike conventional antihypertensive drugs, can help maintain stable blood pressure for one or two months, making it possible to reduce the hypertensive patients’ burden of daily taking drugs and control the fluctuations in blood pressure.
In addition, the institute has developed several other new drugs greater in safety and effectiveness.
