Chinese Defense Ministry calls for checking Japan’s neo-militarist recklessness

A spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense of China at a press conference on August 27 stated that Japan’s neo-militarist recklessness should be checked.

Answering a question raised by a journalist as regards Japan's moves for its remilitarization, the spokesman said that Japan is a nation defeated in the Second World War and that the Potsdam Declaration and Japan’s “pacifist constitution” clearly prohibit the country from possessing offensive weapons.

He disclosed that Japan’s dangerous moves in recent years for overtly expanding its military expenses and arming itself while putting spurs to its remilitarization are similar to the Japanese militarists’ preparations for and start of war on the eve of the Second World War.

If a country, which was keen on launching a war of overseas aggression in the past and does not sincerely reflect on its historical crimes, becomes a state capable of fighting a war by rearming itself, the tragedy of history will repeat itself, he said, calling on the international community to be well aware of and resolutely contain the Japanese right-wing forces’ dangerous attempt.
