Foundations for iron production further perfected
September 7, 2026The metallurgical industry sector has further consolidated the foundations for increased iron and steel production.
On the basis of a detailed analysis of the production conditions and potentials of all units, the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry directs efforts to making them further perfect their foundations for iron production and expand their production capacities.
The Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex developed and introduced a refractory badly needed for increasing the operation rate of an oxygen heat blast furnace in contact with scientists and researchers of relevant scientific research units including the State Academy of Sciences and is putting efforts to establishing its production process.
The employees of the complex have made a step forward in increasing the operation days of the furnace and boosting its productivity by repairing the emergency cooling water supply systems of the furnace body cooling water pump and boiler feed pump and the anthracite granulation process. They also conducted the overhaul of the waste heat boiler and dust collection systems and large oxygen plants in a qualitative way to contribute to pig iron production.
The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex installed an electromagnetic induction stirrer in the continuous casting machine and is solving technical problems arising in the normal operation of the floating preheating system.
The Chollima Steel Complex has directed efforts to updating technical and economic indices.
The complex is pushing ahead with the work to produce and supply bar steel of various sizes. It speeded up the technical upgrading of the wire rod rolling process, while radically increasing the lifespan of the furnace by newly developing and introducing a refractory based on a biological binder. And it is taking measures to produce quality goods, including the reexamination of the technical state of equipment at the wire rope production process and the improvement of technical and economic indices.
The Musan Mining Complex has improved its capacity of mineral processing by installing more magnetic concentrators, while the Chongjin Steel Works and the Posan Iron Works have boosted iron production by increasing the capacities of the revolving furnaces.
In addition, other metallurgical factories and enterprises have entered the stage of revitalization and supply units have expanded their production capacities.
