Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, received a congratulatory message from Comrade Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of the People's Republic of China, on September 9.

The message said:

Comrade General Secretary,

I, on behalf of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese government and the Chinese people, extend warm congratulations and best wishes to you and the Workers' Party of Korea, the DPRK government and the Korean people on the occasion of the 78th founding anniversary of the DPRK.

The Korean people have accelerated the dynamic progress of the socialist cause of the DPRK in all fields for 78 years by dint of self-reliance and united efforts under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Notably in recent years, you, Comrade General Secretary, have achieved a series of development successes by leading the Party and people of the DPRK and focusing on the economic and social construction, and the Chinese side is sincerely pleased with this.

I believe that the fraternal Korean people will certainly attain the goals and tasks set forth at the Ninth Congress of the WPK and steadily open up a new phase in the work of building the Party and the state.

The two countries, China and the DPRK, are friendly socialist neighbours defending and helping one another and sharing their destiny.

It is the consistent and steadfast policy of the Chinese party and government to successfully defend, consolidate and develop the China-DPRK relations.

In June this year I paid an official visit to the DPRK and met you again to open up a new chapter in the development of the relations between the two parties and the two countries.

I am willing to strive, together with you, Comrade General Secretary, to make greater contributions to constantly improving the wellbeing and friendship of the peoples of the two countries and promoting the regional and global peace and stability, development and prosperity by steadily intensifying the strategic guidance over the relations between the two parties and two countries and joining hands with you to accelerate the development of each side's party and state affairs.

I wish your country prosperity and your people happiness and well-being.
