City focuses on forest protection
September 15, 2026Phyongsong City, South Phyongan Province, has taken a series of measures to protect forests from climate change.
As the probability for the outbreak of forest blights and harmful insects increases due to the effects of climate change in the present time, the city pays primary attention to informing citizens of the scientific and technological problems arising in the protection of forests.
To this end, it makes sure that they are well informed of the biological properties of major forest blights and harmful insects, tendency of their outbreaks according to climate change in recent years, gravity and aftereffects of damage, effective disinsectization time and methods, experiences and deviations of the past and other information by placing main emphasis on renewing public awareness of the contents related to forest protection.
It also organizes the work for mobilizing the masses for forest protection in a practical way.
The city directed efforts to the extermination of forest blights and harmful insects in the relevant forest areas from the beginning of the year.
All units in the city launched a campaign all at once to kill most of wintered harmful insects in the ground before they climb the trees. They cleared fallen leaves, scraped the soil and spread slaked lime effectively to practically remove the cause of outbreak of forest blights and harmful insects.
The city has provided full conditions needed for preventing damage from blights and harmful insects.
It attached importance to securing insecticide and providing proper conditions for breeding highly active Trichogramma evanescens to ensure enough quantities of them were prepared in a short period of time.
Officials and forest rangers of the city forest management station, who were dispatched to all forest areas, applied insecticides to the trunks of trees according to the rules and released Trichogramma evanescens at the right time to prevent forest resources from being damaged by harmful insects.
