All the sectors, regions and units of the DPRK are taking every possible measure to deal with the disastrous abnormal climate.

The central emergency disaster and crisis response command team is intensifying the work to cope with natural disasters.

While conducting an in-depth simulation analysis based on the weather forecast issued by the State Hydro-Meteorological Administration, the team directs efforts to identifying disaster-prone areas. On this basis, it informs the relevant areas of the results of the simulation analysis in time and ensures that they make preparations for evacuating residents as soon as a disaster warning is given.

While constantly grasping the water levels of reservoirs across the country, it keeps abreast of such measures as the prior discharge of water from the reservoirs that may be damaged by downpour and other heavy rain and of the position and safety of all ships sailing at sea, the operation of communications systems and automatic recognition devices, etc. and works to establish a system and order of acting as one under the unified command of the team at the time of maritime warning.

The Ministry of Disaster Management ensures that emergency response is made actively and scientifically by introducing new sci-tech successes. 

It developed and introduced a national integrated disaster management system for minimizing natural disasters by predicting risks of various natural disasters including flood, typhoon, drought and tidal waves and analyzing and assessing the scale of possible damage, in order to use it effectively in commanding emergency disaster and crisis response. It also developed and introduced a natural disaster emergency information system, thereby establishing a well-organized information and control system.

Provinces, cities and counties have made a great deal of successes in finding out disaster-prone places and taking necessary measures.

Pyongyang Municipality makes steady efforts to prevent earth and waste from flowing into rivers despite heavy rain.

Mundok County of South Phyongan Province finished ahead of schedule the river dredging and the earth laying and stone covering on the banks in many sections by speeding up the project for improving several medium and small rivers in a three dimensional way.

Kujang County of North Phyongan Province qualitatively carried out tens of thousands of cubic metres of river dredging and earth piling on the banks and Anak County of South Hwanghae Province finished the river improvement project in time in many sections where the riverbeds were raised or the embankments were insecure.

Kumya County of South Hamgyong Province inspected rivers and valleys again and found out dangerous sections and places to consolidate the foundations of structures and ensured the quality of the river improvement project so as to safely cope with heavy rain and flood.
