Jonjin Senior Middle School in Rangnang District, Pyongyang, is run in an integrated way, comprising all categories of schools of general education.

Since its inauguration last year, the school has been putting special effort to increasing the proportion of practical training in the education of students.

At present, the students of the school are parting with the passive way of thinking as recipients of knowledge and adopting an active way of thinking where they practise and experience anything and actively explore and apply knowledge in a creative way.

The school made sure that teachers attached importance to the personal experience of students in all work to intensify practical training.

For example, if a teacher is to give students an understanding of the greenhouse effect, he or she makes students experience varying temperatures on several bottles containing different gases under the same sunlight condition.

The experiencing prior to transfer of knowledge makes students raise questions about relevant phenomena, acquire necessary knowledge for resolving them and find out the answers by themselves so as to make their learning an active and exploratory one.

As to this, Headmistress Kim Un Ok said that all the experiences undergone by students in the course of practical training, including such negative ones as failures and mistakes, have a positive effect on consolidating their knowledge and fostering their creative thinking ability.

The experience gained by the school in the course of consistently attaching importance to students’ own experience in increasing the proportion of practical training is now drawing attention of teachers of many schools.
