In 1875 the Japanese aggressors committed a military provocation for an armed invasion of Korea with their warship Unyo intruding into its territorial waters.

The warship fired guns under the pretext of a “drill” and perpetrated espionage activities while sailing around the waters at will.

Later, it intruded deep into the Korean territorial waters again on the absurd pretext of surveying a shipping route to the Qing dynasty and, in spite of the Korean feudal government’s demand for immediate withdrawal, approached even a point of military importance in defending the capital on the plea of “finding drinking water”.

As enraged Korean soldiers opened fire on the aggressors, the Japanese fired guns as if they had waited for it.

In the face of the strong defence put up by the Korean garrison, the aggressors could not come closer and therefore they changed their course to raid island villages with no defence facilities, thereby killing many inhabitants and committing plunder and arson. But they were expelled by the Korean troops.

This is the fact of the Unyo incident.

The Japanese aggressors, however, passed the buck, claiming that the Korean feudal government “hindered the water supply for the warship” and “insulted the Japanese flag”. Later, they forced it to accept the gangster-like “Korea-Japan safeguarding rules” by force of arms.

After thus opening up a prelude to the full-scale armed invasion of Korea, the aggressors forced it to sign various illegal "treaties" to usurp all its authority, thereby reducing it to their complete colony.

As seen above, the Unyo incident played an important role in implementing the Japanese imperialists' policy of aggression against Korea.

However, the Japanese authorities have shamelessly tried to cover up all the truth behind the past invasion of Korea and ignite the fuse of invasion again while raising the spirits of militarism.

In particular, the present Japanese authorities are running wild towards a military power, freeing themselves from the military fetters for the defeated nation in the Second World War, and unhesitatingly taking reckless military actions to aggravate the regional situation in collusion with foreign forces.

But Japan should clearly know that the destination of invasion is always destruction as it was in the past.
