Socialist emulation is a collective innovation movement for bringing about a great upsurge in production and construction by arousing the masses’ enthusiasm and creativity.

All the victories and miracles recorded in the development course of the DPRK were achieved amid such emulation.

The Korean people vigorously advanced like Chollima, a legendary winged horse, on the debris of the war amid emulation and completed socialist industrialization in a matter of 14 years amid the socialist emulation drive under way across the country.

In the 1970s and 1980s, through different types of dynamic mass movements and the socialist emulation drive, the Korean people manufactured such machines as a 10 000-ton press, which had been an exclusive product of a few developed countries in the world, and built many monumental structures including the Tower of the Juche Idea, the highest stone tower in the world, and the West Sea Barrage built by damming the eight-kilometre-long expanse of sea.

In the 1990s, when the socialist movement had to suffer a serious setback in the international arena due to the vicious moves of the anti-socialist forces, the Korean people more dynamically conducted the socialist emulation movement to break through manifold trials and difficulties and firmly consolidate the foundation for the building of a prosperous country.

The people share one goal of building an ideal society, where everyone leads a dignified and happy life, and advance all together by pooling their efforts and wisdom with backward people overtaking the advanced and the latter helping the former—this is the aim of the socialist emulation drive, which is a powerful means of accelerating social development and advance.

The socialist emulation drive in the new era, a period of comprehensive development of socialism, is being conducted more vigorously in various forms in all sectors, units and regions.

The competition for achieving higher yields is under way in the agricultural sector, increasing the number of high-yielding farmers, workteams and farms every year and the industrial sectors increase new products favoured by the people through the competition for developing new products and raising quality. And all regions regard education as the most important state affair and conduct the competition for successfully sprucing up educational conditions and environment.

It is the history and reality of the DPRK that the strength of unity of the masses of the people further increases and social development and advance grow faster amid the socialist emulation drive.
