Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to the importance of the issue of developing the defence industry at a meeting of the munitions industry sector on September 19.

He said that the new national armament programme and the development programme of the defence industry complex will be the basis for the development and serial production of modern weapon systems and technical equipment to be equipped by the Russian army and other armed forces organs so that they could rapidly and effectively counter potential threats from outside.

The main orientations of the new national armament programme were set in consideration of the world situation, the experience gained in the special military operations and the global trend of military technology development, he said, adding one of the orientations that should be given precedence to without fail is to strengthen the three elements of nuclear weapons which play a key role in ensuring state sovereignty and maintaining the balance of forces in the world.
