There are many parks in Pyongyang, the capital of the DPRK.

Rangnang District alone has several parks and Rangnang Park, one of them, has been renovated.

Kim Jong Chol, a workteam leader of the park, said that it is the fruition of the spirit of devoted service of the district officials who are intent on providing the people with a better environment for cultured life.

In early May several of the officials visited the park.

A few days later, the officials visited the park again and showed the employees of the park a formation plan for the renovation of the park, suggesting they spruce it up to meet the modern aesthetic taste.

In a little over a month after that, the park was transformed beyond recognition.

The gatepost of the park was newly built and the children's playground covering a vast area, the roller-skating rink and the volleyball, badminton and basketball courts were all renovated to be neat and original.

In the children's playground there were set up various kinds of more amusement facilities suited to children's mind. In the middle of the park there appeared a loop route for battery motor cars favoured by children along with a flowerpot stand depicting the lily of the valley.

The green section has a plant sculpture depicting a mother bear and a cub sitting with a honey jar between them, which adds distinctiveness to the park.

New walkways were laid to enable people to take a stroll without feeling inconvenience and ground-cover plants and good species of trees were planted in good harmony to improve the landscape of the park.

O Hye Suk said that she visits the park with her granddaughter, who attends a nursery, almost every day and that she is quite unusually pleased to sit at the resting place of the park while inhaling fresh air and seeing the granddaughter frolic.

“On holidays people have volleyball, badminton and basketball matches in the park, and they are really spectacular. I feel the pride of my job in seeing them enjoy themselves to the full while laughing cheerfully,” said Kim Ran Hui, a keeper of the park.
