Generating capacity based on renewables increased
October 6, 2026Recently, the power output based on renewable energy sources has shown an upward trend.
According to data available, different districts and counties in Pyongyang Municipality set up solar power generation systems with the generating capacity of well over 1 000 kilowatts by themselves during the first half of the year.
A solar power station with a large capacity has lately been built in Haeju City of South Hwanghae Province and new solar power generating capacity continues to be created in Phabal-ri of Kim Hyong Gwon County of Ryanggang Province, the Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm and several other units.
The Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm has a solar power generating capacity of thousands of kilowatts at present.
Scientists of the State Academy of Sciences created the power generating capacity by distributing solar panels in various places in conformity with the topographical features of the island area with limited arable land.
The Samgwang Livestock Farm built a solar power station with a capacity of hundreds of kilowatts on a hill slope and a micro hydropower station using irrigation water to produce a considerable amount of electricity while preserving the natural landscape.
A solar power station built in South Hwanghae Province produces tens of thousands of kilowatt-hours of electricity a day.
Recently, the units with low electricity consumption have achieved successes by directing efforts to installing solar panels.
Besides, Jangyon, Songhwa and Chongdan counties have forged ahead with the projects to create generating capacity based on natural energy sources.
Jagang Province has set a goal to build a solar power station with a capacity of 1 000kW in Kanggye City within this year and is effectively pushing ahead with the project to that end.
Shortly ago, the Onchon County mid- and small-sized power plant operating station in Nampho Municipality introduced a Korean-style technology into its wind turbines to make good progress.
