Chinese FM spokesman censures Japan’s bid for nuclear possession

October 7, 2026

A spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry in a news conference on September 30 denounced Japan for its attempt at nuclear possession.

The Japanese defense minister recently blustered that the discussion on the possession of nuclear weapons and nuclear submarines should not be excluded when revising the three security-related documents. In this regard, the spokesman said that the possession of nuclear weapons is not a matter that Japan can discuss when it wants to.

He noted that it is Japan’s irrevocable obligation with respect to international law not to introduce, manufacture, possess or proliferate nuclear weapons and there is no room for bargaining over it.

The international community should strongly demand that Japan strictly observe the “three non-nuclear principles” and thoroughly abandon its attempt at remilitarization and access to nuclear weapons, he stressed.
