Miserable fate of children in disputed areas

October 22, 2026

Many people are suffering from bloody armed disputes that occur incessantly in different parts of the world and, furthermore, the primary victims are children.

According to a report released by the UN, the number of children killed in the disputed areas last year reached over 6 200, a 34 percent increase over the previous year, and more than 7 900 children were wounded.

Those who suffer the most are the children in the Gaza Strip which was reduced to ruins due to the Israeli forces’ indiscriminate attack. More than 2 600 children died last year alone, but the actual figure is reckoned to be higher as there are unidentified deaths.

The same is true for Lebanon, where hundreds of children were killed by Israel’s military attack in a little over a month.

The sights of parents wailing in front of their children’s stone-cold, dead bodies wrapped in white sheets and bloodstained children crying painfully are rending the hearts of billions of people of the world.

Meanwhile, many children fell victim to civil wars going on in Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and other countries.

It is not only missiles and gun shells that threaten the lives of children.

The health system, which has deteriorated due to the disputes, is also driving the situation to a more serious phase.

Even the children who fortunately escaped death are losing their lives because they cannot receive treatment due to the severe destruction of health facilities.

Due to the absolute shortage of medicines and medical appliances, children are undergoing surgery without anesthetics and suffering from various infectious diseases as they fail to have vaccination which is essential in preventing diseases. Worse still, the shortage of food and other living difficulties have put children in danger of dying at any minute.

Shortly ago, the UNICEF noted that in Somalia which is undergoing severe natural disasters and disputes, nearly 1.9 million children will face malnutrition this year, and about half a million of them will suffer from acute malnutrition.

At this very moment, a lot of young lives who should be frolicsome under the care of their parents are withering away rather than realizing their dreams and hopes, due to the terrible armed disputes. Therefore, their right to learn is out of the question.

Immeasurable are the misfortunes and pains suffered by children in the vortex of wars and disputes caused by the aggression and interference in internal affairs of other countries by the hegemony-seeking forces who resort to any means and methods to serve their own interests.

Social stability and peace are more precious to children than anything else. Ending disputes and achieving peace as soon as possible is the only way to provide the children in charge of the future with a happy and stable life.
