The Chinese representative stressed that it is the most pressing task for the security and management of outer space to prevent arms race and weaponization in space as he addressed the meeting of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly on October 21.

Arms race and weaponization in outer space have already become real threats, he said, adding that the US, which set outer space as an “operational sphere”, sent an extremely dangerous signal to the international community by admitting in public that it deployed a “space control weapon” in the orbit.

The contradiction between a large majority of countries trying to protect the security of outer space and the one nation seeking its supremacy in outer space is unprecedentedly sharp, he said, asserting that it is the greatest challenge to the security of outer space.
