According to him, more than 400 000 people have been offered a variety of advanced medical services since the opening of the hospital and more than 1 100 consultations and technical lectures given through the telemedicine service system.

Medical workers of the hospital have achieved many successes in the treatment of patients by applying advanced medical science and technology.

They successfully operated on the patients who had been diagnosed with rare diseases and contraindicated to surgery, and restored their health.

In the course of this, they applied CO2 laser and impulse pigment laser to the removal of scars caused by burns or surgery and the treatment of vascular deformation for the first time in the country, giving pleasure of resurrection to many patients.

The hospital has completed more than 1 000 guides for diagnosis and treatment which are considered scientific and accurate.

Thanks to the efforts of its medical staff, a guide on the operating theatre management regulations to be used at modern hospitals which will be newly built in different parts of the country was worked out and distributed and valuable books on science and technology were written to be generalized across the country.

As the centre for clinical research and dissemination and academic exchange, it conducts a variety of brisk activities to develop the country’s public health onto an advanced level in a short span of time.

The role of the already-deployed research centres including the cardiology research centre and the sectional committees of the Medical Association of Korea was further enhanced and sectoral symposia such as the 7th national symposium on medical genetics and the 9th national symposium on dental implantology were held to solve urgent sci-tech problems arising in clinical practice.

The hospital is pushing ahead with the research into opening a new field of organ transplantation and intensifying the efforts for expanding the application of light-vision surgery and generalizing the minimally invasive surgery and intervention.

The hospital operates the telemedicine system on a regular basis. It gave over ten technical lectures under such titles as “Putting medical services on an intelligent and IT footing” and “On myopia treatment with orthokeratoscopic lens and excimer laser refractive keratotomy” to medical workers of provincial, city and county-level medical treatment and prevention institutions across the country. It also held consultations on problems arising at provincial general hospitals to take prompt and accurate measures for treating chronic and emergency patients.

It has further upgraded the functions for improving the level, convenience and utility of its intelligent medical service system, and strengthened the material foundations for raising the comprehensive informatization standards of the in-hospital medical service and management.

In order to accommodate an increasing number of outpatients, it set up a site “Pyongyang General Hospital” 1.0 in the national data communications network and is now pushing ahead with the development of an all-people medical service system which aims to build a digital medical service network so that residents can access healthcare service at home.
