Graduation is not end but beginning

The high-voltage luring insecticidal lamps which have recently been installed in different places of the capital city draw the attention of officials and experts in the urban management sector.

The newly-developed lamps are high in harmful insect-killing rate, low in production costs and long in lifespan as compared with the previous insecticidal lamps. And they have good decorative effects as they can be made in diverse shapes.

The developers of the device are the university graduates who began to work at the Pothonggang District Committee of Science and Technology last year.

“We discussed a lot on what we would do as the first research task for society. At the end of the discussion, we decided to develop more efficient insecticidal lamp conducive to the environmental protection of the capital city which is becoming more beautiful along with new modern structures and diverse cultural recreation grounds,” said Ji Su Ryon, one of the university graduates.

The previously used insecticidal lamps had different limitations in terms of insecticidal effect, production costs, lifespan and shape.

The most important issue in developing the new insecticidal lamp free from such limitations was to correctly fix the colour of rays and the band of wave length, which would lure only harmful insects.

They learned what kind of rays harmful insects like and what their food chain consists of in contact with relevant experts and studied the pest control methods in other countries.

In the course of this, they found out the most rational colour of rays and band of wave length and, on this basis, they buckled down to the work of enhancing the insecticidal effect, reducing the production costs and improving the structure of the device.

They installed trial products made through their painstaking research and strenuous efforts in different places to conduct scores of experiments and finally succeeded in completing them.

The high-voltage luring insecticidal lamp was highly appreciated at a national exhibition held last August and the developers were awarded a certificate of introduction of state sci-tech hits.

“Through the development of the device, we came to know that university graduation is never the end of studies. It was not easy to develop the small device as we had to study a new field besides the majors. University graduation is the beginning of other studies and reality is the most excellent school for us,” said Ji Su Ryon.
