Thanks to the regional development policy in the new era of the Workers’ Party of Korea, sweeping changes have taken place in cities and counties throughout the country day after day.

Kangnam County in the suburbs of Pyongyang is one of them.

The Pyongyang Municipal People’s Committee launched a large-scale project to completely change the looks of the county after it was selected as this year’s target of construction for implementing the regional development policy.

Competent officials were dispatched to it and manpower and materials needed for the construction were sufficiently provided.

After the construction started, narrow roads were widened first, stylish street lamps installed and trees planted in line on both sides of the roads.

Dwelling houses were newly built and senior middle schools, primary schools and other educational facilities renovated and existing houses and public buildings given a facelift in perfect harmony with each other.

White birch and other good species of trees, over 64 000 flowering shrubs and some 50 000 square metres of turfs were planted around the target projects for the regional development policy rising up at a fast pace and throughout the county town, unfolding a beautiful landscape. 

Parks with large LED screens and amusement facilities bring joy and optimism to the people.

Even the county residents admire and wonder at the radical changes taking place in the township area beyond recognition.

“When new factories, a leisure complex and a hospital built by the country are completed, our county will be turned into a paradise in which we can enjoy life like that of urban dwellers,” said Ryu Il Ho, living in neighbourhood unit 73 of the county town of Kangnam.

It is the unanimous desire of the residents of Kangnam to return the favours the Workers’ Party of Korea bestowed on them to provide the people with a happy and cultured living by working harder with a high sense of patriotism.
