ICC abandoned by international community

July 14, 2026

Niger recently submitted an application for secession to the International Criminal Court.

Niger, together with Mali and Burkina Faso, had issued a joint statement declaring the withdrawal from the organization in September last year, asserting that it became a neocolonialist repressive body in the hands of imperialism.

The statement said that the ICC does not deal with even the undeniable cases related to war crimes, unethical crimes, murders and aggression, while “strangely and absurdly keeping mum” about those who committed such crimes.

The International Criminal Court was established in The Hague of the Netherlands in July 2002 pursuant to the “Rome Statute” adopted in July 1998 with the aim of punishing those who committed crimes against humanitarianism such as massacres and war crimes.

But since the start of its activities, the ICC has mainly dealt only with the African issues, turning its face away from war crimes committed in different parts of the world.

In a word, it has lost justice and fairness.

For this reason, many African countries, which had supported its establishment, began to defy it, expressing disappointment at the unfair behaviours of the organization which was reduced to a political tool of the US and the West.

The ICC still interferes in the internal affairs of developing countries, keeping absolute silence about the unethical crimes of the West which does not hesitate to invade sovereign states and kill civilians.

The West-led ICC, which has lost justice and fairness, has no reason to exist any more—this is the ever-growing unanimous demand of developing countries.

It is quite natural for the international community to increasingly reject the organization.
