Recently, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry made the following statement in response to Yoon Suk Yeol’s nonsensical remarks on the Taiwan issue in an interview with Reuters:

There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory.

The Taiwan issue entirely belongs to the internal affairs of China, and it is at the top of China’s core interests.

Settling the Taiwan issue is a matter of the Chinese people and unwanted meddling of others is not acceptable.

The tense situation in the Taiwan Strait in recent years is mainly attributable to the forces “seeking independence of Taiwan” within the island who are pursuing division with the support and connivance of outside forces.

“Independence of Taiwan” and peace and stability are incompatible with each other.

“Independence of Taiwan” and foreign intervention should be unequivocally rejected in order to safeguard the stability of the Taiwan Strait and peace and security of the region.

The spokesperson concluded by demanding south Korea firmly uphold the principle of One China and show prudence in dealing with the Taiwan issue.
