Serious food crisis in the world

May 27, 2023

Food crisis still remains as a serious problem in the world.

The World Food Programme said on May 19 that about 345 million people in 82 countries are now faced with food shortage, adding that affordable food resources are limited although the demand for it has risen.

In particular, food situation keeps deteriorating in the Horn of Africa.

According to the United Nations, 23 million are suffering from food scarcity in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia as of May 22.

Especially, over 7 million children under five suffer from malnutrition, of which 1.9 million are in a sad plight.

The main reason for the deteriorating food crisis is reportedly related to unfavourable natural climate conditions and ceaseless armed conflicts.
